In a surprising turn of events, Venezuelan opposition figure Maria Corina Machado will not attend the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony held in Oslo, as reported by official sources from the Norwegian Nobel Institute.
Despite being under a long-standing travel ban by her home country's authorities, Machado was expected to attend the event. However, her absence was confirmed by Kristian Berg Harpviken, the Institute's director. Ana Corina Sosa Machado, her daughter, will receive the award in her stead.
The award, which Machado dedicated partly to former U.S. President Donald Trump, highlights her staunch resistance against Venezuela's leadership and the country's political landscape. The ceremony will proceed with distinguished guests, including Latin American leaders.
