Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1247 in Grand Junction will likely remain closed for the rest of the year before partially reopening in early 2026, according to VFW District 11 Commander and Investigating Committee Chairman Len LaDue. The post, located at 1404 Ute Ave., temporarily shuttered starting in September, at the order of the VFW Department of Colorado.
LaDue cited a handful of reasons for the temporary closure, which the organization had declined to comment on until after a recent members’ meeting.
For one, he said the post — one of two in Grand Junction, and the only one with a dedicated bar — had lost its nonprofit status after failing to file the proper paperwork with the IRS. The federal agency’s website said VFW Post 1247 had its nonprofit status revoked in 2017.
