An elderly man, Lazalo Magowe, believed to be in his 70s, has died following a crocodile attack in Lake Malawi at Vinthenga Village in Nkhotakota.
Nkhotakota Police deputy public relations officer Chisomo Chuma said the incident occurred on Saturday last week at around 8pm.
According to police, Magowe had gone into the lake to cool himself during the heat when a crocodile suddenly seized him.
“He shouted for help, but the reptile dragged him underwater. Community members rushed to assist, but they could not rescue him as the crocodile disappeared with him,” Chuma said.
Fishermen discovered his body the following morning, floating along the shoreline.
Magowe came from Mpheruwa Village, Traditional Authority Changata, in Thyolo.
