Marcus Freeman and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish were hoping to squeak their way into the College Football Playoff after winning 10 straight games to close out the season, but that didn't end up happening.

Instead, the committee decided to leave Alabama in the playoff and they placed Miami in over Notre Dame. Following that news, the Fighting Irish decided to decline their bowl game invitation, ending a depressing finish to what had been a great all-around season.

Unfortunately, to start the year, Notre Dame lost to both Miami and Texas A&M. That was apparently too much to overcome.
