Compton’s mayor has asked the city’s public safety chair to resign Tuesday after a video showed him poking a prominent activist in the eye.
Mayor Emma Sharif has asked for Public Safety Chair Bishop L.J. Guillory’s resignation after he poked activist Najee Ali’s eye at a press conference Friday where Ali and other Compton residents asked for Guillory’s resignation.

“Guillory showed up and provoked and tried to intimidate us,” Ali said. “And he just demonstrated with his actions and actually poking me in the eye, which is now being investigated by the sheriff’s department for battery against me.”
According to residents in Compton, the initial demand for his resignation stemmed from comments Guillory previously made
