HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Wahiawa man sentenced to life in prison for fatally stabbing his roommate will receive a new trial.
Kai Wylan Sedeno Dela Cruz was 25 years old when a jury found him guilty of killing 45-year-old Isaac Lee on Nov. 19, 2019, at around 6 p.m. on Ohai Place.
Honolulu police said Lee was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
Dela Cruz initially fled, then returned to the scene about three hours later and was arrested.
Officials later said that Dela Cruz was high on methamphetamine at the time of the killing.
Original conviction and sentence
The jury found Dela Cruz guilty on April 5, 2024, of second-degree murder.
On July 16, 2024, he was sentenced to life in prison.
