Virat Kohli has come agonisingly close to reclaiming the No.1 spot in the ICC ODI rankings. The veteran batter is now just eight rating points behind his teammate Rohit Sharma. In the latest rankings released on Wednesday, December 10, Kohli climbed two places to No.2, pushing New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell and Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran down to No.3 and No.4 respectively.
Kohli’s rise comes on the back of a sensational ODI series against South Africa, where he was named Player of the Series after India clinched a 2-1 victory. Across the three matches, he amassed 302 runs at an average of 151 and a strike rate of 117.05, including consecutive centuries in Ranchi and Raipur .
