A Universal Credit claimant was stopped by police in a £26,000 Toyota C-HR - and now he's landed in court.

Benjamin Prince had been pulled over by officers when they discovered the car he was driving was on false plates.

Further checks revealed the motor had been pinched from Solihull two years earlier.

Prince, 42, claimed he purchased the car from a traveller for £6,000 and 'never questioned' why it was so cheap.

But he later confessed to handling stolen goods.

Prince was caught driving the stolen car in Liverpool Road, in Newcastle-under-Lyme, on January 26 last year, StokeonTrentLive reports.
