One of the UK's biggest fashion chain's is gearing up to make closures in the New Year. It comes after the firm reported a slump in sales earlier this year due to multiple factors that included consumers migrating to online shopping. ‌

River Island, which has been on the high street since 1948, announced in June that it would be closing down 33 stores across the UK. Alongside closures, it was reported that rents would be reduced at a further 71 stores. ‌

At the time, the list of locations of stores set for closure included six across Scotland, with many of them based in the Central Belt. However, despite initially being earmarked for closure in early 2026, one Scots branch has already permanently closed. ‌
