Scotland continues to have the lowest life expectancy in the UK in a "damning indictment" of the SNP's record on health. ‌

Official figures out today show Scots can expect to live two years less than people born in England, and over a year less than those in Wales. Life expectancy in Scotland now stands at 77 years for men and 81 years for women. ‌

But the endemic poverty gripping parts of the country means that men living in the poorest communities can expect to die a full 13 years before those living in the wealthiest areas, with the difference for women being 10 years. ‌

In 2022-2024, life expectancy was highest in East Renfrewshire at 85 years for women and 81.5 years for men. In Glasgow, life expectancy is just 78.7 years for women and 74.3 years for men.
