Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority has joined a growing list of conservation authorities opposed to the provincial government’s plan to merge 36 organizations into seven regional entities.

“We are pushing back,” said NPCA board member Brad Clark, who is also chair of Hamilton Conservation Authority.

“Most municipalities (and) most conservation authorities are taking a similar position that you don’t need to amalgamate.”

During a special board meeting Dec. 5, members unanimously approved a motion that said NPCA does not support the proposed new Western Lake Ontario Regional Conservation Authority, which would incorporate NPCA, Hamilton Conservation Authority, Conservation Halton and Credit Valley Conservation Authority.
