The FA have announced England will face Uruguay and Japan in Wembley friendlies in March in their final matches before Thomas Tuchel announces his World Cup squad.
The matches were agreed between the FA and the federations of Uruguay and Japan months ago, but confirmation was delayed until after last Friday’s World Cup draw as teams cannot face their group-stage opponents in friendly games in the lead-up to a major tournament.
England’s 2026 campaign will open against the Uruguayans in a 7:45pm kick-off at Wembley on Friday, March 27, before a return to the national stadium to face Japan on Tuesday, March 31 in a match that kicks off at the same time.
The Three Lions, ranked fourth in the world, were keen to face teams ranked inside the top 20 sides on the FIFA rankings. Uru
