Light snow was falling on Montreal Wednesday morning, coating roads and sidewalks, a gentle harbinger of what is expected to come.

Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a yellow warning, in effect from Wednesday till Thursday evening, because of an expected 15 to 20 centimetres of snowfall exacerbated by blowing snow on Thursday. That’ll mess up the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes.

Similar alerts were issued for much of southern Quebec.

The temperature is expected to reach a high of minus-8 C in Montreal, with a wind chill around minus-11 C. Five to 10 cm of snow is expected to fall before sunset. Overnight, a low of minus-6 with a wind chill near minus-13 and another five to 10 cm of snow.
