Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has been elected as vice chair of the Democratic Governors Association (DGA).

The unanimous vote approving Whitmer for the role took place Saturday, Dec. 6, among about 20 Democratic governors during the DGA’s annual winter meeting in Phoenix .

“I am grateful to be elected vice chair of the DGA and excited to work with Governor Beshear to elect more Democratic governors ready to get stuff done for their constituents,” Whitmer said. “Lowering costs, creating jobs and getting things done has always been my focus in Michigan, and it’s how Democrats have held this seat for eight years.”

The previous DGA vice chair, Democratic Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, was voted as chair-elect last year. He officially became chair during the meeting of governors.
