ANN ARBOR, MI - Roughly 120 gallons of sewage were discharged Tuesday afternoon on the north side of Ann Arbor.
City crews were responding to a complaint of a basement sewer backup in the Water Hill neighborhood on Dec. 9 when they discovered a nearby utility cover was discharging, city officials said. Roughly 120 gallons of sewage flowed into the street gutter and nearest storm drain.
Officials do not believe the sewer backup and the discharge incidents are connected, although it is not yet clear what caused either incident.
City of Ann Arbor staff contacted the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy, as well as applied lime to the affected areas to neutralize potential bacteria.
