HOUGHTON COUNTY, MI –- Michigan is recommending its tallest waterfall receive federal funding to improve visitor accessibility of both the rugged wonder and its veteran memorial site.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources added Houghton-Douglass Falls in the Upper Peninsula to its project list requesting $11.9 million from the Land and Water Conservation Fund.
The DNR recommended $1 million for a second phase of the ongoing project to make this waterfall more accessible to visitors.
Douglass-Houghton Falls stands at 110 feet from the top to its base. It’s located in Houghton County between Laurium and Lake Linden just off M-26.
