Relatives of a man who died after being exposed to asbestos while working for Scottish Power can claim damages from the energy company, the Supreme Court has said in a landmark ruling.

In a seven year battle the company had sought to avoid having to pay compensation following the death of a family member, with the unanimous judgment meaning others whose family members died after exposure may now be able to bring their own cases.

Robert Crozier died of mesothelioma, a cancer which grows in the tissue that covers many internal organs, in 2018. The disease is always fatal and is only caused by asbestos exposure.

He had been employed by Scottish Power between 1969 and 1992 and developed pleural plaques and contracted asbestosis.
