DANVILLE, Va. — The man accused of setting a Danville city councilman on fire has been deemed competent to stand trial by a judge, according to the Danville Circuit Court Clerk.
Shotsie Buck-Hayes is charged with first-degree attempted murder in connection with the July attack at Showcase Magazine, where Danville City Councilman Lee Vogler worked. The councilman suffered burns over more than half of his body.
Sgt. Gerrit Clay with the Danville Police Department testified that Buck-Hayes had intended to kill Vogler over an alleged affair with his wife.
The decision was based off a psychological evaluation, after asking to plea insanit y back in October. Two days after his arrest, Danville authorities say he was suicidal and was transported to a Virginia psychiatric hospital. He spen
