A father living in Surat, Gujarat, has filed a petition in the Family Court to stop the initiation (Diksha) of his seven-year-old daughter. The child’s mother is determined to proceed with the initiation, while the father is opposed to it. She has planned for their daughter to take part in a mass initiation ceremony scheduled to be held in Mumbai on 8 February.

To prevent this, the father has filed a case against his wife. In his plea, he told the court that he wants his daughter to become a doctor. The father, who works in the share market, said that his family is fully capable of giving their daughter a good education. The court has set the next hearing for 22 December.
