WASHINGTON — Authorities have determined the cause of death for Carrie Elizabeth Romney, the sister-in-law of former U.S. Sen. Mitt Romney.

Carrie Romney, 64, was found dead on Oct. 10 after a five-story fall from a parking structure near a shopping mall in Santa Clarita, California, authorities said.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner determined she died by suicide, as a result of suffering blunt traumatic injuries.

“Our family is heartbroken by the loss of Carrie, who brought warmth and love to all our lives,” the Romney family said in a statement to People at the time of her death. “We ask for privacy during this difficult time.”
