SUMMIT TWP., MI – Witnesses Wednesday afternoon contended Leonard Hugall killed his stepdaughter and hid her body in a shallow grave in 1984 to stop her from reporting sexual abuse she allegedly suffered at his hands
Hugall, 74, was bound over to circuit court for trial proceedings following a preliminary examination Dec. 10 before Jackson County District Judge Daniel Goostrey.
He heads to trial facing a charge of felony murder and second-degree murder. He is accused of raping and killing Kelly Jean Harris, 13, allegedly under the guise of taking her to the 1984 Jackson County Fair.
The murder charge, which carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison, comes months after Harris, missing since Aug. 11, 1984, was declared legally dead and a medical examiner ruled her death a homicide
