NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi engaged in a heated exchange during the SIR debate in the Lok Sabha. Rahul Gandhi challenged Amit Shah to discuss vote rigging, while the union minister responded that he would not take orders from others.
Amit Shah amplified the spat after he blamed the Congress for committing the first election fraud in India’s history and stifling democracy. The war of words between the ruling and opposition parties led to a ruckus in the House. The Opposition then boycotted the House and walked out. Even after this, Shah continued his reply speech.
Amit Shah said that SIR was conducted to ensure that only genuine voters remained in the voter list.
