HUNTINGTON, W.Va. ( WVVA /Gray News) - The West Virginia National Guard said Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, one of two members shot the week of Thanksgiving in Washington, D.C., is continuing to show more signs of response and movement.

“A Christmas miracle is happening,” the West Virginia National Guard shared in an update on Tuesday.

Wolfe, with West Virginia National Guard Spc. Sarah Beckstrom, was ambushed and shot in Washington on Nov. 26 by a 29-year-old Afghan national, federal authorities said.

Beckstrom died from her injuries the day after the attack.

Wolfe has continued to show signs of improvement during rehabilitation, the West Virginia National Guard said.

On Monday, he was able to sit up in his bed, straighten his back and raise his head.
