WASHINGTON D.C., DC — The Trump administration announced a deal Tuesday to permanently end President Biden's student loan repayment program, a move that could force millions of borrowers into more expensive payment plans while sweeping changes to federal student aid threaten to price working families out of higher education.

The Education Department reached a proposed settlement with Missouri and six other Republican-led states to shut down the Saving on a Valuable Education plan, known as SAVE. The agreement would prohibit new enrollments, deny pending applications and move all 7 million current participants into other repayment options.
