MACON, Ga. — One of the greatest head coaches in Mercer football history is leaving Macon.

On Wednesday, head coach Mike Jacobs was announced as the next head coach at Toledo .

Jacobs led the Bears to some of their greatest seasons in the team's history. In just his first season at the helm in 2024, Jacobs led Mercer to its first-ever conference championship and helped the team reach the third round of the FCS playoffs.

Jacobs replicated that success in 2025 , going undefeated in SoCon play, clinching back-to-back conference titles. He also secured another second-round home playoff game. However, the Bears lost to South Dakota 47-0.
