ATLANTA — A top Justice Department official has threatened to sue the state of Georgia over access to its voter files, saying in an interview this week she feels like she was effectively told to "go pound sand."

Georgia election officials contend they've gone to great lengths to maintain accurate voter rolls and share information, and that state law ties their hands from providing sensitive data.

Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon, who heads the DOJ Civil Rights Division, expressed her frustration with Georgia specifically in an interview on Wednesday on "The Benny Show," with conservative podcaster and media commentator Benny Johnson.

The DOJ began requesting voter data from states earlier this year and, according to the most recent AP reporting, has sued at least 14 states
