The Red Sox appeared to be interested in Corey Seager and reportedly had discussions with the Texas Rangers about the five-time All-Star during the Winter Meetings .
According to Rangers reporter Jeff Wilson , a trade between the two teams for Seager isn’t going to happen.
“It served as a form of entertainment to the Rangers, who dismissed it as the kind of runaway rumor that can develop at the winter meetings,” Wilson wrote Wednesday . “Boston officials might have seen that the Rangers are pinching pennies this offseason and figured it was worth a shot. And the inquiry was quickly shot down.”
Seager hit 21 home runs last season and is a two-time World Series champion. The 31-year-old is under team control through 2031 after he signed a 10-year, $325 million deal with Texas i
