The votes are in and Port Dalhousie’s outdoor community and event space on Lakeport Road now has an official name.

Old Lock One Commons won out over two other shortlisted names for the space in a vote held by the city. The title received 96 votes, compared to Lakeside Commons with 52 votes, and N. Carlos Garcia Commons with 29 votes.

City council approved the Old Lock One Commons name this week when it passed its consent agenda. The city will have a sign made and install it at the site at 45 Lakeport Rd. early in the new year.

“Residents noted Old Lock One Commons (or variations of it) is a recognition of the physical remnants of the historic second Welland Canal that are still visible today,” a city staff report said.
