Redundancies announced before Christmas: SecAnim, an animal by-product disposal firm, has put 50 workers at its Widnes facility at risk of redundancy just weeks before Christmas. The job losses, which affect employees including engineers and forklift drivers, are expected to take effect in the new year.

Local MP Derek Twigg of Labour called the timing "hugely concerning," noting there appears to be a "pattern" of redundancy announcements at the Widnes site occurring just before the Christmas period, which is "especially awful news" for employees.
