TUSCOLA COUNTY, MI – A man died and a Michigan State Police trooper was injured after a shootout in Tuscola County last night.
Michigan State Police personnel responded to a residence in Koylton Township to pick up a 54-year-old man on a mental health order that was signed by a judge around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
Troopers and a sergeant arrived on scene and encountered the man, who was in a vehicle, before he opened fire, according to a news release from Michigan State Police.
The incident took place on Denhoff Road in Tuscola County.
A sergeant was shot in the hand, treated at a hospital and released.
The 54-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
There was no threat to the public, according to the release. The incident is under investigation.
