Sen. John Fetterman said during a TV appearance Tuesday he has no regrets about voting to end the federal government shutdown even though Democrats received no guarantees on extending healthcare subsidies that are set to expire.

“Shutting our government down was always wrong,” Fetterman told host Katy Tur on MS NOW , formerly MSNBC. “I will never vote to shut our government down.”

Fetterman was one of eight Democratic senators to vote with Republicans on reopening the government, though there was no deal to extend Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies, which will expire at the end of the year.

As he has done since the shutdown, Fetterman said the closure was not worth risking food security for 46 million Americans on SNAP benefits.
