A coffee crook who brewed up an online scam may need to temper future caffeine cravings after being convicted of crimes involving more than $1,200 in coffee pods.

“Coffee seems to by the driving force here,” Judge Cameron Watson told Katherine Woods in Ontario Court of Justice in St. Catharines on Wednesday.

“Coffee is only for your ingestion and not for sale, and not for fraud.”

The 37-year-old woman was placed on probation for 18 months after she pleaded guilty to fraud under $5,000 and theft under $5,000.

The fraud was the result of a scam involving Facebook Marketplace.

In April 2024, court heard, a man responded to an ad Woods had posted offering coffee pods for sale.

The man sent an e-transfer as payment and the transaction was successfully completed.
