Two people have been sentenced in the killing of a 55-year-old Maple Ridge man nearly three years ago.

On March 4, 2023, Ridge Meadows RCMP were called about a man found dead in a parking lot in the 21800-block of 122nd Avenue, next to Maple Ridge Secondary School.

Investigators later identified the victim as Surinderjit Singh, who went by the name Jack.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took over and worked with local RCMP, forensic services and the B.C. Coroners Service.

Two months after Singh’s death, second-degree murder charges were laid against Kimberley Buitenweg and Joseph McWilliams. The pair were 33 and 44 years old at the time.

Earlier this year, Buitenweg and McWilliams pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of manslaughter during separate court dates.
