UEFA have released two updates explaining key penalty decisions in Manchester City's clash with Real Madrid at the Bernabeu. Los Blancos thought they'd made a blistering start to the game when Matheus Nunes fouled Vinicius Junior.

Referee Clément Turpin pointed to the spot before VAR intervened and overturned the decision. Upon closer inspection, the foul took place outside of the box and Pep Guardiola's side were given a welcome reprieve.

In response to the penalty being overturned, UEFA said on their website: "Decision overturned: no penalty. Penalty cancelled.

"Man City's player, No27, committed the foul outside the penalty area."

It was a welcome lifeline for City, but Xabi Alonso's side would eventually take the lead. Rodrygo opened the scoring with a superb finish
