After a Royal West Academy teen on his way to school one morning in October 2024 was struck by a car on a crosswalk near an intersection that had long been flagged by residents as dangerous, parents went into high gear in their quest for a crossing guard to be stationed at Westminster Ave. and Ainslie Rd. The Montreal West high school student, who was 14 at the time, was lucky: His injuries were minor. The outcome could have been tragic.

“We met right off the bat with different partners when this happened,” said Jessica Houde-Woytiuk, who has been a parent committee representative for Royal West at the English Montreal School Board for several years. The issue of the intersection “has been a trending issue,” she said.
