The city of Fort Wayne has invested more than $41 million in neighborhood infrastructure improvements this year, officials announced Wednesday.

That compares to the $49 million the city spent on similar projects last year.

The work included repairs to sidewalks, curbs and guardrails. Four bridge, one brick alley and 21 street lighting projects were also on the list released during an afternoon news conference.

All four quadrants of the city received infrastructure improvements, officials said.

Mayor Sharon Tucker and Public Works Director Shan Gunawardena spoke at the news conference.

Tucker credited open communication with residents for officials' ability to choose the projects that matter most to the most people.
