Police were investigating a fatal shooting in Maricopa, Arizona, after a caller said a former boyfriend was hiding in a bathroom after there was a restraining order against him.

At about 11:34 p.m. Dec. 9, officers responded to a shooting at an apartment in the area of Loma and Smith Enke roads in Maricopa, Arizona, after a woman said an ex hiding in the bathroom was shot by a current boyfriend following a fight, according to Maricopa police. The caller had a restraining order against the man who died from his injuries, police said.

"At this time, his identity is being withheld in order for proper next of kin notifications to be made," police said in an email.

The couple stayed at the scene and officers detained the shooter without incident, according to police.
