The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a lake-effect snow warning for parts of upstate New York, including Wayne and northern Cayuga counties, effective 1 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, through 7 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12 . Cities in the affected area include Newark and Fair Haven .

Heavy lake-effect snow with accumulations of 5 to 10 inches in the most persistent bands.

Wind gusts up to 40 mph may produce blowing and drifting snow.

Travel will be difficult , with reduced visibility and hazardous road conditions, especially during Thursday morning and evening commutes .
