The National Weather Service released a winter weather advisory at 1:30 a.m. on Thursday in effect until Friday at 7 a.m. for Monroe County.

The weather service states to expect, "Snow accumulations 2 to 5 inches in the most persistent lake snows. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph will produce blowing and drifting snow."

"Travel will be difficult at times with snow covered roads and reduced visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the Thursday morning and evening commutes," adds the weather service. "Lake effect snow will fall in relatively narrow bands. If traveling, be prepared for rapidly changing road conditions and visibilities."
