IOWA, La. (KPLC) - Mr. Wayne Dawsey’s voice became synonymous with Iowa Yellow Jackets athletics over more than two decades as the team’s announcer.

Dawsey, who passed away on Nov. 27 at the age of 88 , began announcing for the high school during his son Cody’s freshman year and continued for over 20 years, becoming a beloved figure in the community.

“I know he absolutely loved it when he would be anywhere in Lake Charles or in Iowa, being in a grocery store and somebody would say, ‘your voice sounds familiar.’ And he would say, ‘Well, I announce the games for Iowa,’ and they’d say, ‘That’s it, that’s where I know you.’ Every time that happened, he told me with a smile on his face. He absolutely loved it,” Cody said.
