A long-standing homeless encampment has been cleared out, with its residents connected with housing, according to the City of Winnipeg.
Makeshift tents and other items scattered around Mostyn Park, next to the Granite Curling Club in West Broadway, were cleared away by city crews Wednesday.
In an email, city spokesperson Julie Dooley said the park was "remediated" on Wednesday, and that the city's partners " were able to link all individuals residing there with housing" earlier in the week.
The move comes less than a month after new city rules came into effect prohibiting encampments within 50 metres of schools, daycares, playgrounds and skating rinks.
Encampments are also prohibited within 30 metres of transit shelters, docks, bridges and some public facilities.
