A weather alert was issued by the National Weather Service on Wednesday at 9:31 p.m. for snow squalls until 10:15 p.m. for Chemung, Tompkins, Madison, Cortland, Chenango, Otsego, Tioga and Broome counties.
"At 9:30 p.m., a snow squall was along a line extending from Georgetown to 6 miles southeast of Lawrenceville and moving east at 30 MPH," describes the weather service.
Locations impacted by the alert include Chemung, Binghamton, Elmira, Vestal, Cortland, Johnson City, Endicott, Southport, Barton and Norwich.
According to the weather service, "Conditions can deteriorate rapidly in winter weather situations. Be prepared for snow or ice covered roads. Slow down and allow extra time to reach your destination. Use extra caution if you must travel into or through this squall. Rapid changes
