FARGO — With frigid temperatures coming, experts say now is the time to make sure your home is ready for the cold.

Staff at Laney's in Fargo say a top priority should be disconnecting hoses so your pipes don’t freeze.

Your gas meter should also be cleared off in case it needs to be fixed.

Along with making sure your air filters are good to go, they say it’s important to keep all of your vents open, especially during bitter cold.

"I would definitely make sure all your vents are always all open. I know a lot of people like to close 30-40% of them off to get more heat up; no, let's just keep them all open so that at least the heat is going to be evenly distributed throughout the house," Ty Rambousek, business development manager at Laney’s, said.
