Waterloo Region residents will see a $3 decrease in the police portion of their tax bill once its proposed budget is passed.
After police came to Region of Waterloo council Nov. 26 with a $272.6-million police operating budget, bringing a 6.75 per cent tax impact on the police portion of the property tax bill, the region updated its assessment growth number, knocking down the estimated tax impact, police services board heard Wednesday.
With an increase in assessment growth of 1.5 per cent, from 1.15 per cent, the tax impact was lowered to 6.38 per cent, now an increase of $54 from 2025 for a typical residence.
Regional council is set to approve the budget Dec. 16.
