Guelph police are looking for suspects after a possible distraction theft was thwarted by a retirement home employee.
On Tuesday, the employee told police she drives a bus to drop off older adult clients and, in the morning, dropped them off at the Willow West mall. She then saw one of the clients, in her 90s, approach a vehicle that had pulled over.
The employee said she saw a woman in the car lean out, attempting to place a necklace around the client’s neck.
Believing the woman was trying to steal the client’s own necklace, the worker intervened. The woman in the car, police said, claimed her mother recently died and was trying to give away her jewelry. The driver then sped off.
