HOUSTON — A South Houston mother has transformed her front yard into a vivid Christmas display to honor her daughter, who was killed by a drunk driver five years ago.
Charisse Thomas lost her 18-year-old daughter, Destani, in February 2020.
“She was smart as a whip,” Thomas said.
Thomas said Destani died after a drunk driver crashed into her vehicle, causing injuries that stretched from her head to her waist.
“The guy broke every bone in her body … she had no chance of survival,” Thomas said.
This year, her yard glows with orange and white lights in the style of Destani’s favorite restaurant, Whataburger. Every ornament, photo and decoration is placed in her daughter’s honor.
