A teacher who had sex with a former pupil has been banned from the profession.

Ruqaiyah Akhtar was working at Haberdashers’ Crayford Academy when her relationship with a pupil at a school she previously taught at came to light.

A Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) misconduct panel heard last month how Ms Akhtar had met the pupil while at Kingsford Community School in London more than a decade ago.

He told the hearing he was flirty with Ms Akhtar while in school, with the pair often having conversations of a sexual nature.

He added that after a few weeks of him being sent to her classroom for misbehaving, they exchanged mobile numbers and began texting each other “quite frequently”, before arranging visits to her house, which often resulted in sexual intercourse.
