TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - The University of Arizona brought home some hardware over the weekend, but in a sport that many people may have never heard of.

Competitive Microsoft Excel, something that was born in Tucson and has spread across the world.

“Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be doing an esports tournament, let alone for Excel, and it was honestly a ton of fun,” University of Arizona MECC athlete Tess Patton said.

Many of the students in David Brown’s Wednesday afternoon class on competitive Microsoft Excel didn’t think much of it to begin with.

“I was offered extra credit in one of my classes, so I did it,” said University of Arizona MECC athlete Jack Weber.
