Amidst the heated discussions during the Parliament's winter session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi met on Wednesday to discuss the appointment of the new Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) and eight Information Commissioners. The meeting, held at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), lasted for about an hour and a half.

Home Minister Amit Shah was also present. According to sources, Rahul Gandhi had requested information from the government a few weeks ago regarding the caste of the applicants and the selected candidates. The government shared this information with the Leader of the Opposition on Wednesday. Sources indicate that only 7% of the applicants were from backward communities.
