WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - The United Way of the Plains is conducting its annual Point in Time count, Jan. 29, to assess the number of people experiencing homelessness in Wichita.

To properly complete the census, volunteers are needed.

Organizers said this initiative is not just a survey.

“It's an outreach event. It's a chance for us to know everyone in the community. Lets them know we have resources for them and we'd like to serve them,” Cole Schnieders, COC planning manager for United Way of the Plains, said.

Volunteers will be trained and paired with people who have experience.

Groups will visit encampments, parks, empty lots, and more in Downtown Wichita and the surrounding areas.

Volunteers will interview people experiencing homelessness, let them know about the resources available,
